What's been happening

Hannah's Chance Foundation has been the beneficiary of some fantastic events over the past year. The Foundation is very grateful to its generous supporters who organise these events.

2011 Butterfly Dinner Dance

An amazing event once again organised by board members Leigh Webb and Aideen Quigley with the Gold Coast Fundraising Committee on Saturday 16th July at Twin Towns Showroom.  Around 300 guests attended the annual ball with close to $30,000 raised from the evening.  Guest speaker David Thomas spoke about the importance of funding for research and HOCA Nurse, Sue Fleay, who has looked after many sarcoma patients, including Leigh Webb’s son Corey, Tom O’Driscoll  and Hannah Ciobo-O’Driscoll,  won the beautiful Butterfly Pendant created by  jeweller Rex Horsely.   “Having looked after Hannah and Tom, it was wonderful to win the pendant.  I wear it everyday” said Sue.

Wahu Sarcoma Surf Team Challenge 2011

The 3rd Annual Sarcoma Surf Teams Challenge sponsored by “Wahu” was held on the 24th July with 5 local boardriding  teams  participating in the competition.  $3,500 was raised at the event  and a big thank you to Surfin Snaps and Gold Coast Surf Magazine for your ongoing  support.  Once again a great effort from Leigh Webb and the Gold Coast team for organising this event.

Butterfly Effect Luncheon

Another successful ladies luncheon was held on 22nd July at the Terrabora Room, Dune, at Palm Beach.  40 guests attended the lunch and silent auctions, lucky door prizes and raffles raised a total of $975.  Guest speaker Jess Ainscough, The Wellness Warrior, spoke about her journey with the fight against Sarcoma.  Thank you again to Leigh and team for a successful luncheon.

“Reach Out For Rory” Afternoon Tea

Sadly on the 22nd of December, 2010, courageous Rory Mulligan passed away from an Osteosarcoma. He was just 19 years old.  On the 20th August this year, 100 people came together for afternoon tea at the Star Cafe in Toowoomba to celebrate what would have been Rory's 20th birthday. That night more of Rory's friends attended a 'glow party' held at the Cube nightclub, where Rory used to work while he attended university. As a result of these events, $3700 was donated to Hannah's Chance Foundation to aid in the fight against sarcoma. Rory's mother, Debbie, would like to thank everyone who opened their hearts in memory of her courageous son and his battle against this heartbreaking disease.
